Stretchlon Select 12's Take 2 From Tarboro
The Stretchlon Select 12's defeated the Tarboro 12's 3-0 in Game 1 of the Sunday "Tarboro" doubleheader, and then defeated the Tarboro 11's 2-1 in the second game. Against the Tarboro 12's, The Stars scored 2 runs in the third when Fuller Weatherly hits a single, Jon Naylor walks, Matt Bowling reaches on error, and Jarrick Oxendine slaps a 2 RBI double to the fence. The Stars add an insurance run in the 5th inning after a Jon Naylor single, and a towering sacrifice fly by Josh Driver. Jeremy Trevathan had the only other hit in the game for the Stars. The Stars pitching combination of Matt Bowling, Jeremy Trevathan, and Ian Taylor combined on the Shut-Out, allowing only 2 Tarboro hits. In game #2 against the Tarboro 11's, the Stars used final inning dramatics to take a 2-1 victory. The Stars allowed 1 unearned run to Tarboro in the opening frame, on a hit and an error. The Stars were then held hitless until the bottom of 5th inning. The Stars combined a hit by Ben Woodlief with several walks in the inning, to tie the game at 1-1. In the bottom of the final inning the dramatics were initiated by Matt Smith's lead off single. Ian Taylor laid down the perfect sacrifice bunt, advancing Smith to second. Jeremy Trevathan then laced the game winning hit into the deep left field corner, salvaging a 2-1 Stars victory. The Stars pitching combination of Matt Williams, Josh Driver, Jon Naylor, Matt Smith, and Jarrick Oxendine held tarboro to 1 run, and 2 hits in the game.
The Stretchlon Select 12's record is now 11-2. They are scheduled to play in the State Games in Roanoke Rapids on June 10-12.
