STRETCHLON STARS 14U WIN SILVER / NATIONAL BID IN THE AAU SUPER REGIONAL
The 14U Stretchlon Stars began the weekend facing the Triangle Thunder. Tyler Joyner, Mike Williams and Brian Goodwin combined on the mound for 11 k’s and 2 hits in the 13-1 win. Goodwin started the 1st with a triple and later added a double and single going 3-3, Joyner 2-4 2B 2R, Ben Fish 2-3 2B 2R, Tyler Clark 2-3 2B 2R, Casey Bissette 2-2 2R, Adam Sparks 1-2 1R, Williams 1-4 1R Justin Marsigli 1-1
Stretchlon faced the Fuquay-Varina Predators for its final pool game. Marsigli, Williams and Sparks shared duties on the mound pitching a one hitter and striking out 5 in the tremendous defensive effort by all of the Stars like Goodwin’s out stretched diving catch robbing the Predators of a double and a score. The Stars struggled for two innings and heated up the bats in the third, fifth and sixth innings out hitting the Predators 15-1 in an 11-1 win. Sparks, Ben Fish, Bissette, Dillon Cockrell, Goodwin, Marsigli and Clark each went 2-3 at bat with Sparks, Fish, Bissette, and Clark adding doubles Joyner 1-2 2R.
In the championship game Stretchlon faced last year’s National team The Carolina Hurricanes. The Stars pulled out a 2-0 lead until the third inning when the Hurricanes managed five unearned runs and the Stars could not recover. The Stars tried to rally in the 5th when Goodwin drove in Clark with a double off the top of the right field fence but it was not meant to be. In the Silver medal finish the Stars had 9 hits to the Hurricanes 8 losing 12-3. Pitchers for the Stars: Cockrell, Joyner, Goodwin, Parker Stallings and Sparks. Hitters for the Stars Bissette 3-3, Cockrell, Goodwin and Stallings each doubled, Fish, Cameron Ramsey and Clark each had a hit.
